Los Angeles Abrasion Value

The Determination of resistance to Fragmentation. This test is carried out in accordance with BS EN 1097-2 and has two methods the most commonly used and well known Los Angeles test and the impact test method. The test is used to determine the wear of aggregates used in building and civil engineering sector. The test simply determines the resistance of the aggregate and make sure it is suitable for different levels of application.

The Los Angeles abrasion test is important to make sure that the material you are using for whatever application is suitable. The test determines it's durability to fragmentation or abrasion as when mixing and once in the ground the gravel is susceptible to high stress.

Laboratory Testing

The sample is reduced to the correct portion size of which is typically 10mm and 14mm. The sample is placed into the Los Angeles testing machine with steel ball bearings and the barrel set to rotate.

Upon completion, the sample is removed from the Los Angeles test machine and sieved to determine the abrasion value. The final stage is to wash and grade to remove excess dust and oven dried. The test is then checked and verified to make sure it has been carried out to the highest standards.
